McGregor Gourlay Agricultural Services supply inputs and agronomic services to farming and grazing industries. They also organise farm insurance, provide finance, trade grain and export containerised grain.

Operating throughout Northern NSW and southern Queensland with branches in Moree, Croppa Creek, Warialda, Bingara, Inverell, Bellata, Goondiwindi and Delungra, McGregor Gourlay pride themselves on being an independent business that is locally owned and operated.

They recently recognised that due to continued growth they needed to find an integrated software solution for their business.

McGregor Gourlay CFO Michael Slater said that they had realised the software system they were using wasn’t capable of delivering the information required to successfully manage a business of their size.

“We needed a windows based solution that would be able to integrate with other applications such as excel to enable easier manipulation of our data , which would in turn provide a sound platform to make management decisions as we moved forward,” says Michael.

“We had used CBA2000, which is a very sound product but just didn’t deliver the required reporting levels. It seemed a natural fit to move to Greentree.”

Kinetic Director Scott Graham said that a Greentree solution was implemented that included financial management, supply chain management & distribution, payroll and business intelligence.

 “Using Greentree we were able to provide a robust solution that will deliver stakeholder confidence and enhanced business management performance,” says Scott.

“In particular, Greentree is able to meet the demands of a supply chain operational environment by handling critical lead time, whilst maintain optimal inventory levels.”

McGregor Gourlay operates five days a week and being able to access accurate information at any point during the week is crucial to the ongoing reputation of the business. Phase 2 of the project is to begin shortly, with the implementation of Point of Sale for each of the branches. This will allow McGregor’s to achieve better control at a branch level and maximise the customer experience.

“The major improvement has definitely been the reporting levels available on Greentree,” said Michael. “Our Management team has never had so much information available at their fingertips to enable decisions based on firm data and in a timely fashion.”

“The ability to email invoices to our customers and purchase orders to our suppliers direct from the system has really improved our customer service and efficiencies.”

“We are currently implementing a point of sale programme to integrate with our scanning hardware at our merchandise branches. This will see customer time at the counter reduced and our inventory controls enhanced.”

McGregor Gourlay is also working with their large corporate clients so that they have round-the-clock access to their accounts, meaning they are able to view their invoices and unprocessed orders.

“The back end efficiencies are quite significant compared to the previous system. Every day and end of month housekeeping functions are minimised on a very large scale enabling more time for our team to get on with more productive pursuits.”
